Gananoque is located on the St. Lawrence River in the heart of the 1000 Islands just 3 hours from Toronto, Montreal and Syracuse, and under 2 hours from Ottawa. ananoque is an Indian name, which when translated means "the place of health" or "the place where water ran over the rocks". In the spring, Indians used to make their way down the Gananoque River to the St. Lawrence River where they found fresh air and clean water.
